Well, i prefer this drama series over adellea sofea. Well what you prefer, a drama about a married man and woman who have a secret with each other and stupid people around them or a drama about a psychopath yet 'decent' guy who very strategic in winning woman's love.
Of course, i choose penn badgley over ungku ismail aziz.
So after killing Beck in the first season & surprise us with the appearance of Candace at the final episode, Joe changes his name into Will. Or to be exact he stole the identity of Will Bettleheim, a sort of dealer, fixer. Joe meets Will to get a new identity but it takes a long time. So as he desperate to run away from Candace he just punches him and steals his identity instead.
So guest what happen to the real Will? Make a way for The Cage. The same cage that Joe has back in NY. He put the real Will there just so he can use his identity to win over Love, his new love crush.
Well, things get to quick with Love. Joe try to restrain himself from falling in love as he knows Candace might catch him in action. And the fact that he dont want to hurt Love. But it takes two to the tango, eventually, we will found that Love is as broken as Joe so they kinda match made in heaven.
So the issue that i want to highlight here is:
1. of course, for Muslim people, we must avoid zina. so i don't know why joe is so hot stuff that he have sex with a various woman (ever since season 1). even with his neighbour Delilah. I mean, joe personality alone is interesting enough so why not be a normal virgin guy who would married a normal virgin girl.
pfft what do you expect, he is a psychopath.
well, i am annoyed with the fact that at most of the time, it is the woman who gave in their body to this guy.
so the lesson we get here is, avoid zina. yes, in a movie or drama it is sound thrilling but reality can be harsh. either you end up sleeping with a psychopath who leeches on you like a crazy person or having an unexpected baby when you are broke (which lead to family issue), being killed (like what happened to Delilah) or dumped when he is not into you anymore or many more. i seem like taking on woman side but believe me, the damage is on us.
2. the minority issue really getting on my nerves. can people see how stupid it is for a human to have LGBTQ lifestyle. like what happen to two of Love's best friends Lucy and Sunrise. They are lesbian couple who have an adopted daughter. their wedding scene at the end of episodes are so...weird for me. can you understand the feeling of their daughter and how miserable she can be. she might grow up thinking of she should find a good girlfriend and wife to be married.
somehow i miss emma stone's school society in Easy A.
they are talking about their first encounter and how beautiful their life become after meeting with each other. seriously, these people are sick. i should watch back ustaz wadi video
as i am watching the drama, actually i don't know if this only happen to me but at first, i see candace as a distraction. somehow i am rooting for joe when he is planning to avoid her or expose her evil plan. but actually from the beginning till the end, candace is the true hero of the drama. he just a woman who wants to protect other women from having the same fate as her, and Beck. which is the character we need in society. not some bitch who underestimate or bully or just don't care about other woman issues.
at first, when she exposes joe true identity to Love, i just confused on why everyone around joe seems to relax. yes, they don't know yet that he is a killer but seriously don't they have a bit suspicious about his background? i guess that is the fact in our society. the media have reported sexual harassment against woman cases but the woman herself being blame. candace have a hard time to tell the truth to the policewoman, Love, Delilah and Forty. And when Delilah and Forty finally believe her, it is too late. I won't tell the spoiler about what happened to Candace.
4. as someone on the net said, bad people, is actually a good people that been hurt. you know how bad things can be stop? it is when we stop doing the same bad thing to others. even if we had a rough childhood, that does not mean we can harm other people. Love is a good sister who very protective with his twin brother. She the one who murder their nanny but she put the blame on his brother and let him live in confusion .it only end up damaging his life. he can never be happy living in a lie.
i cant sympathize anymore with Love's struggle to bring back her family together as all she did is throwing blame on anyone else, act like she is a free person but always use money as a solution to every problem that she had. and to be honest, i never like her character since the first episode when she throwing herself at joe. yes, she did defend a muslim girl in the second episode but like i said, that does not mean she can do crime and escape from the punishment.
she is as broken as joe. she is the second joe. and i am glad they end up together with joe feeling caged with their relationship. i guess he realised that all these while, he never love anyone. he just obsesses with them. like his new obsession, the neighbour.
the first season, at most time joe are too dependent with the social media and that is an insult towards human generation right now. the social media can be a medium for bad people like joe to enter our life and make damage.
the second season of You portray more on joe's struggle about his past, about how he want to repent from all the crime he did. but like the poster said, 'He meets his match'. He cant change or repents when the people around him is as toxic as he is.
and yes, again. just because he is good in one particular thing does not mean we can let go of the crime that he made. even if it is for justice, but he is not God to decide who deserve to live or die.
He has the same concern towards Ellie as he did with Paco from the first season. But that does not mean he is not guilty of the crime that he did towards their guardian.
so as a conclusion, i like the storyline but tbh i kinda despise everyone in that drama excluding candace, forty and ellie. basically it tell us how toxic person can be worse in toxic society.
