Haha tajuk apabenda jela.
It is not an entry totally about john llyod, si aktor filipina tu. Tapi aku lebih nak cakap tentang drama cinta filipina atau dipanggil 'soap opera'.
I dont watch all his drama because seriously it is so hard to get them because most of his drama is in 2000's. Zaman tu youtube baru nak lahir dan peminat drama filipina hanyalah mak cik2 yg duduk rumah.
But i watch few on youtube ,but it only airs less than 15 episodes (out of 100+ guys). So i would like to give my thought on filipina love drama through john llyod dramas
How philiphines perception on love (in 2000s era)
1. The hero or heroine must be rich. Super rich like the mayor son or very successful businessman.
'More than love' drama show the heroine come from a family who had a successful shipping company and the hero is the long lost son of their rival company.
'It might be you',the hero is the son of town mayor while the heroine is an orphan (i i think she got backstory also but i told you u only watch 10 episode & i not yet googled about it).
'ikaw ang lahat sa akin', the hero once again the heir of a successful business company (they do many business which i dont care).
John llyod mmg takkan jadi org miskin yg mmg miskin. So does bea alonzo. Oh yeah if you notice, i only watch the drama he did with bea alonzo. Memula dorg suka cerita psl perbezaan darjat but at the end it always rupanya dua2 sama darjat.
Kau rasa? Haha. So aku mcm skeptikal skit dgn usaha dorg utk memberi mesej 'cinta tak mengenal darjat'. Pftt.
2. John llyod always...always...be the guy who madly deeply in love with the girl. Yeah i know bea is pretty, even a woman could adore (and envy) her.
It is the extend of entering her room just to say he miss her (ikaw ang lahat sa akin), pretend to be her husband and make a lot of skinship in (more than love) & clinging to her from childhood period to adult (it might be you).
Sometimes it feels romantic and sometimes it is soo annoying. Like freaking annoying.
Must he ask her to date him in office hours (IALSA) & only the antagonist feel it is inappropriate while everyone let them be?
I am bothered by the skinship they had in MTL (yeah, they got two season and half of them are just showing how they glued with each other).
It seem like, they try to show if you love someone, touch her, comfort her with you hands, your body...i mean what the hell. You are intruding someone personal space too much and you call that love. Call me conservative, i dont care if you are englishman or americans. But it bothered me because asian people should have limitation of it.
Which bring us to number 3,
3. They seem to transform into their colonial culture
We all know that all the soap opera story is sooo not relevant. They only talk about
jealousysy and hatred because of wealth, exaggerate love between man and woman more than with their own parents.
They seem want to be like their colony; rich and dont care about anything else like poverty and social issue. Yes, they did show scene where the rich donate food and money to the poor but that is so pretencious. Like a 12 year old girl can write the scene.
4. How they allowing LGBT community in their society
Maybe in 2000s it is not so obvious. But in drama 'IMBY', there is an important character in the heroine life which become drag queen. I mean, the real actor i believe is a straight guy, and i dont see the importance to potray such character.
In become more obvious these day, the drag queen Vice Ganda even had his own show, and his films get into box offices.
Oh, just to tell you john lloyd did a gay character in one of his movie. Then starting from that, he is well known in hollywood.
Omaigod, why is he doing that? You want tough character? Just go to Tondo and live there for a month.
5. Last but not least, ok i just want to comment how they always potray bea alonzo in most of drama & movies. Can you stop potray her as a slut with all the unnessary romantic scene? She can be a good tomboy girl in IMBY and innocent girl next door in IALSA. so stop stripping her clothes and make her look like a slut.
i conclude the 'love' that been potrayed in soap drama is more to illusion rather than reality. I told you philiphines people are very creative and have much affection in their love story. You watch 100 episode of indonesian sinetron is different from the feel that you get watching 100 episode of philiphines drama. So it would be great if they just stick with their own culture, with their real society issue and make a meaningful love story.
This is a few credit i want to give with each john llyod drama that i watch;
1. In IALSA, i like how the second heroine love and life issue. She is the typical hardworking poor girl but she been raped (when she in drunk situation) by the man she adore (as a gentleman, not that she want to marry him). She still fight for her right (after know the truth) eventhough the rapist had become her business partner and best friend.
2. In IMBY i like the simple childhood both of the main character had. Especially with the child actor kathryn bernado. She is cute but matured, rough but soft heart. Her adorable gesture and the way she talk really make me satisfied with the first five episode.
More Than Love is just too complicated. I bet everyone just watch it because they want to see kilig moments between bea and john.
With this, i end my crush with you john. Kita putus.
