drama review: hanbun aoi

now, where do I start with the awesomeness of this drama?

so this is Suzume & Ritsu. born on the same day, same place, same time but huge difference. since she was a baby, Suzume is known as the monkey for her not-good-looking looks & craziness, compare to Ritsu who have perfect face & decent behaviours.

but nevertheless, they are best friend. this story focuses on Suzume, a cheerful and blur girl who grew up in the village with her friends. at early 9 years old, one of her ears is infected with a virus that makes her lost her hearing (but at one side only). yes, it seems like a simple conflict but I love how she, her family and her friends overcome the conflict.

she had a happy teens life together with Ritsu and their two other friends. so at this point, I feel bore for a while because seriously Ritsu had no feeling towards Suzume and vice versa. they don't have the usual story of a best friend become a lover. plus, both of them are having a relationship with other people although it doesn't stand last.

Suzume, as the most not-brilliant person among them, begins to worry about her future. while other people busy preparing a resume for job application or university application, Suzume feels that the odd job doesn't suit her. she even had a huge argument with her mother that have a hard time find work at a factory that accepts her disability. Suzume is a girl full of surprises. suddenly one day, she decides to be a manga artist because she really loves to read manga and she can draw too.

she quit stubborn at choosing this path. but Ritsu helps her to meet her favourite manga-artist and send her drawing. Master Haori Akikaze accept her to work under him. At this point, I kinda feel the heavy heart that she feels when at the first time she left her village to go to Tokyo. Alone. Well, Ritsu will join her later because he got admit to University Tokyo but it is not sure whether they can be as close as before.

so goodbye for now, friend.

There are funny moments at the beginning of her career life in Tokyo. But due to her stubbornness, she manages to be one of manga-artist along with two colleague,  Bureto & Yuko. Her struggle as a manga-artist begins and she learns that it is not easy to actually publish manga in a magazine.
As for me, I like the idea of how each of these talented artists has their own struggle. Bureto left Tinkerbell Office after publishing his work in an inappropriate adult magazine. Plus, he is using Suzume's idea to debut at another company. Yuko, the most talented person among them have a successful workpiece & one of her works been adapted into television series. However, she faces 'burn out' phase that she lost her interest in drawing manga. She gets married to a rich guy and later pursues her other dream of becoming a nurse.

And there is Suzume left alone. Do you remember Ritsu is supposed to be in Tokyo? Yes, accidentally they meet again a few days after Ritsu come to Tokyo. Ritsu tries to live alone without Suzume but at many times the girl seems to need his support. So their relationship goes on as usual and there is no chance of them falling in love because Ritsu already has a girlfriend, his first love from high school named Saya.

You think their relationship is smooth? Well, think again. Suzume is a carefree girl who treats everyone nicely. Plus, she is so straight forward and innocent, so everyone love to be by her side. But not Saya. Suzume does not know where the jealousy begins but Saya becomes more controlled over Ritsu especially when he hangs out with Suzume. Suzume can feel the hatred so she tries to avoid becoming the third person in their relationship. However, on her birthday (which also Ritsu birthday), Master Akikaze throw a party for her and buy her cake. He forced her to give the cake to Ritsu too because they have a good relationship.

Suzume reluctant to enter Ritsu apartment seeing Saya was there(Ritsu was out), but Saya insists she comes in (at that time there is Yuko too). And that's how the conflict begins. Saya confronts Suzume indirectly that Ritsu is her. Suzume becomes furious and said Ritsu still her friend. Saya gets angry and begins to blurt out everything she doesn't satisfy. She tears Suzume, Ritsu and their two friends photo saying that she wants to be the first person over anything for Ritsu.

Ritsu comes home and Saya complains to him that Suzume makes all the mess. Suzume and Yuko go out without saying anything.

Of course, Ritsu does not believe Saya's story. He knows Suzume well more than she knows herself. They had dinner together, and clarify a thing. Ritsu said, he does not belong to either Saya & Suzume, he is himself. At that point, both of them know that they should stop seeing each other. So they bid farewell.

Did Suzume capable of having a love life? Does every person she met think that she is easy, dumb and too conservative that any man won't be interested in her? Even Ritsu walk away from her life, and he has been with her almost all her life.

Don't worry Suzume is good by herself. Plus, she has been in two love relationship but it doesn't stay long. So Suzume spends a few years to become a successful manga-artist. Without Ritsu, without Yuko or Bureto (although they always visit her so she is not lonely). Life goes on.
